Stephen Benefield: Cambodia
| Stephen Benefield, brother of former staff member Tim Benefield grew up in a pastor's home and was saved at an early age. Having pastors and missionaries visit his family had a big impact on his burden for ministry. At about nine years old, he answered the call of God, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? and surrendered to missions during a missions conference. While preparing for missions, he was asked to drive a missions preacher to the airport. This preacher casually remarked, if I were only 30 years younger, I'd go to Cambodia. The following is Bro. Benefield's testimony: After we dropped him off at the airport, my wife and I began to talk about what he had said. I said, “Here we are making plans to start deputation soon and go to the mission field, but we are still undecided about which field. I am still not 100% certain of where God wants us, but I think we should make a decision and see if God opens that door and gives us peace or if God leads us in a different way.” My dad had always told me, “If you’re not sure what God wants you to do, just start doing what you think he MIGHT want you to do, and He’ll let you know if it’s right or not.” So I said to my wife, “I feel like God has really been putting Cambodia before my eyes a lot lately, so if you are willing, let’s go to Cambodia. If God wants to adjust the plan and change something along the way, we’ll be flexible, but let’s make a decision for Cambodia.” She agreed. Once we made that decision, from that very day forward, both of us had perfect peace that we had made the right one. God has confirmed that decision in myriad ways over the years. | ![]() sbenefield@camnet.com.kh |
